Zandra Rhodes
We visited Zandra Rhodes design studio and Ben Scholten, Head of Design, show us several textiles and a collection of beautiful made dresses. Some of us even get to try some on. They are very involve in the creative process of making the prints and act as artists. Their designs are printed on natural materials like silk and cotton because the ink penetrates better. They do have one pleated dress made from polyester which is man made material but they prefer not to because they don't like the ink that they have to use. He told us Zandra's print design are inspired by her travel. Her catcus prints were inspired from her trip to Nevada and her building print was inspired by her New York trip. They do custom dresses as well but at a very high price...for me at least. The way it works for them is that they design the fabric FIRST then design the shape of the dress after it. I found that to be interesting.
