Yohji Yamamoto @ Victoria & Albert Museum
Today I visited the Victoria & Albert Museum with my classmates with an emphasis on the Yohji Yamamoto exhibit which will run through July 10, 2011. It was quite fascinating. Not only did we see the exhibit but our guide also show us 5 other satellite displays of his work located throughout the museum. Yamamoto unintentionally become a fashion designer after obtaining his law degree in Japan. He went to work for his mother, a seamstress, after graduation. She told him that to earn the respect of the other seamstress, he must learn the trade and so learn the trade he did through fashion school. It turned out he has the quite the talent. My favorite piece is from his Spring/Summer 2004 collection described as long black dress with top made from triangular patches gathered by metal chain.
